We had the pleasure of sitting down with Brent Smith at our studio in Los Angeles to talk about playing a dynamic show, the band's latest release Attention Attention and inspiration from touring with Iron Maiden. Attention Attention
"From the day Attention Attention was released which was May 4th of last year, I remember it was like three or four days after the release of the album- we were playing new material. We were playing songs off that record, and people already knew the words."
Playing a Dynamic Show
"The thing about a Shinedown show is that there is a level that is unsurpassed any other band I've ever seen. It's definitely a ride, it's an experience. It's meant to be a visual sonic rollercoaster. It's very emotional, it's very intense. But it has everflow. It has peaks and vallys, you know you can't just punch someone in the face for an hour and 30 minutes. You gotta have dynamics. There's a lot of dynamics in the shows. This is probably the biggest production we've put together as of yet and it's breathtaking."
Iron Maiden Inspiration
"We had the mindset like we'll show up, we'll be lucky maybe the buildings will be half full. That was not the case. Every single building it was filled to the rafters. Because the way their fanbase is, if Maiden has you on the bill, there's a reason for it so they show up. The last song on Attention Attention is a song called "Brilliant" and it really was inspired by that tour. Over seas audiences are really intense when it comes to live music. You can have all the bells and whistles but sometimes the band needs to be it's own pyro, that's definitely what "Brilliant" represented."
